Call for speakers

Be the first to speak at WordCamp Lille.

On December 7, 2018, 250 people will join us at the Nouveau Siécle in Lille to enjoy the very first WordCamp taking place in the Hauts de France.

They will all expect to improve their skills and knowledge about WordPress: its open source projects, its use and its performance as a Web publishing platform, its community and its ecosystem.

« Your mission should you choose to accept it … » Satisfy them by sharing your knowledge!

Thanks to your talks and workshops, you will contribute to the achievement of our team’s goals. The speakers’ team will represent WordPress keeping in mind that :

  • WordCamps are open to everyone, it is important to provide G-rated content and to make sure jokes used during talks do not bother anyone.
  • WordCamps are local WordPress communities official events: talks or workshops need to be about WordPress, they should respect the WordPress trademark as well as the WordPress open source project’s GPL license.
  • WordCamp Lille’s timing is tight, we need to respect the milestones that will precede D-day, in particular: sending your slides to the organizing team on time.

About the WordPress topics of your talks.

If you are free to choose them, we recommend that you choose a subject on which you have some expertise or a good experience. Describe it during your application, with passion, originality and as simply as possible so that all the WordCamp Lille attendees can understand you.

WordPress news can inspire you, especially with the latest announcement about the new editor (developed in modern JavaScript and using extensively the WordPress REST API) merge into Core (version 5.0). On December 7th, it is very likely that this version is about to or has just been released.

WordPress extensibility can inspire you as well. For example, since Lille hosts the Connected Trade Show every year and two neighboring towns host two historic French mail order companies: we will be very careful about presentations talking about using WordPress as an online shop.

Speaking at WordCamp Lille is contributing to WordPress

Just like contributing to WordPress is open to everyone, applying (in French or in English) to this call for speakers is open to everyone. You do not have to be an experienced speaker to submit your talk or workshop: we all need to start one day or another!

However, if you have already spoken at one or more WordCamps in other cities, we invite you to submit at least two conference (or workshop) proposals. For the second one, you can use one you already gave during another WordCamp (making sure to update it if necessary).

We are a team and in such an organization there are substitutes to take over the starters in case some can’t make it at the last minute. We will therefore ask some of you (that’s why we invited you to submit a second proposal into the previous paragraph) to back them up and we hope that you will accept it with great understanding.

Whether you are a starter or a substitute, all team members will enjoy a free ticket to attend other conferences and workshops. Please remember that WordCamps do not reimburse travel or accommodation costs for speakers.

How long should your presentation be ?

We will use two rooms at the Nouveau Siécle: the conferences will be held in a 200 seats room and workshops in a smaller room (80 seats)..

Your session should be 40 minutes long. The audience will have 10 minutes to ask you questions about your talk. When submitting your talk, you will be able to choose the format you like the most, please be aware we might decide to give you a different format.
